Lukat Geni

Lukat Geni is a sacred purification ritual performed by Balinese Hindus in Bali, especially in relation to the Nyepi celebration. The term lukat means purification, while geni means fire. Symbolically, Lukat Geni represents a spiritual cleansing process connected to the element of fire as a source of purification and renewal.
This ritual is commonly carried out on the eve of Nyepi, as part of the spiritual preparations before entering the Day of Silence. Through prayers and sacred offerings, participants seek to cleanse negative energies, purify the mind and soul, and restore balance within themselves and their surroundings.
Lukat Geni reflects the deep philosophical values of Balinese Hinduism, emphasizing harmony between humans, nature, and the divine. It is not only a ritual of purification, but also a meaningful reminder of self-reflection and inner renewal before beginning the Balinese New Year.
