Denpasar – The Bali Provincial Government continues to strengthen its commitment to sustainable development through the utilization of clean energy. As part of this effort, a Clean Energy Coordination Meeting was held on Monday, June 22, 2026, bringing together representatives from regional government agencies and vertical institutions. The meeting was attended by the Regional Secretary of Bali Province, demonstrating the provincial government’s strong support for accelerating the transition to clean energy across the island. The coordination meeting specifically discussed the implementation of Rooftop Solar Power Systems (PLTS Atap) within the Building Approval (PBG) process, which has become an important instrument in supporting low-carbon development and increasing the use of renewable energy in Bali. In his remarks, the Regional Secretary of Bali Province emphasized that clean energy development is an integral part of Bali’s future development vision. Amid rising energy demands and the challenges posed by global climate change, Bali must take a strategic role by promoting environmentally friendly and sustainable energy sources that can support the island’s energy resilience. According to him, Bali has enormous potential for solar energy development due to its abundant sunlight throughout the year. This potential should be optimized through various policies and programs that encourage communities, businesses, and government institutions to transition toward renewable energy utilization. One of the initiatives currently being promoted by the Bali Provincial Government is the installation of rooftop solar power systems on buildings. In addition to reducing dependence on conventional electricity sources, rooftop solar systems represent a concrete step toward lowering carbon emissions and supporting environmentally sustainable development. During the meeting, participants received a comprehensive presentation explaining that rooftop solar systems are not merely an alternative energy technology but also a key component of the transformation toward green building development. Therefore, rooftop solar installations should be considered from the earliest stages of building design, including during the Building Approval (PBG) application process. Participants were also informed about the relationship between rooftop solar installations and building technical requirements. Rooftop solar systems form part of a building’s utility infrastructure and must comply with standards related to safety, structural reliability, environmental considerations, and electrical systems. Consequently, implementation is not solely focused on installing solar panels but also on ensuring that buildings remain safe, comfortable, and fully functional. The meeting further addressed various regulations that serve as the legal foundation for clean energy implementation in Bali, including both national and regional policies. These regulations reflect the government’s strong commitment to creating an ecosystem that supports renewable energy development as part of sustainable growth. The coordination meeting also highlighted several strategic programs that have been implemented and planned to support solar energy utilization, including rooftop solar installations on government assets, public facilities, tourism establishments, and commercial buildings. These initiatives are expected to serve as examples while encouraging broader participation from communities and the private sector. As a region whose economy is heavily supported by tourism, Bali has a strong interest in preserving environmental quality. The adoption of clean energy aligns with Bali’s tourism development strategy, which increasingly emphasizes sustainability principles. Today’s global travelers seek not only beautiful destinations but also destinations that demonstrate a genuine commitment to environmental protection and climate action. Through this coordination forum, participants also discussed various challenges related to rooftop solar implementation, including technical considerations, financing mechanisms, human resource readiness, and public awareness of renewable energy benefits. The recommendations and insights generated during the discussions are expected to contribute to future strategic policies and programs. The Bali Provincial Government hopes that strong collaboration among government institutions, businesses, academic communities, and the public will accelerate the development of clean energy across the island. Through effective cooperation, rooftop solar systems can become more than just a building requirement; they can evolve into a collective movement toward a greener, more energy-independent, and sustainable Bali. Through this Clean Energy Coordination Meeting, the Bali Provincial Government once again reaffirmed its commitment to promoting innovations and policies that support renewable energy utilization. These efforts are expected to deliver long-term benefits for the environment, local communities, and the tourism sector, while strengthening Bali’s position as a world-class destination recognized not only for its culture and natural beauty but also for its commitment to environmentally responsible and sustainable development. During the meeting, the Regional Secretary of Bali Province also encouraged business operators, particularly those in the tourism, hospitality, restaurant, retail, and service sectors, to take advantage of solar panels as an environmentally friendly energy source. The adoption of solar energy not only represents a concrete contribution to Bali’s clean energy transition but also offers long-term economic benefits through improved energy efficiency and reduced electricity costs. As sustainability becomes an increasingly important consideration for travelers and investors alike, the use of renewable energy can provide added value and strengthen the competitiveness of businesses. The Bali Provincial Government hopes that more businesses will actively participate in supporting Bali’s vision of becoming a greener, more sustainable, and energy-independent destination through the wider adoption of rooftop solar power systems.

The opening ceremony commenced with remarks from the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo 2026, Dr. Diah Permana; Group CEO of Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Hery Gunardi; the Governor of Bali, represented by the Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Dr. I Wayan Sumarajaya, M.Si.; and the Vice Minister of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises of the Republic of Indonesia, Helvi Yuni Moraza. The event was officially opened by the Vice Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, Ni Luh Puspa. Carrying the theme “Thrive in Bali: Where Wellness Inspires the World,” this year’s event reaffirms Bali’s role not only as a leading tourism destination but also as a global source of inspiration for healthy, holistic, and sustainable lifestyles. Dr. Diah Permana, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo 2026, stated that this year’s event was designed as a strategic platform that not only showcases products and services but also fosters cross-sector collaboration. "Through Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo 2026, we aim to encourage the development of a more integrated, collaborative, and globally competitive wellness ecosystem. Bali possesses unique strengths in culture, nature, and spirituality, which, when developed sustainably, can inspire the world," she said. In his remarks, Group CEO of Bank Rakyat Indonesia, Hery Gunardi, emphasized the importance of synergy between the financial sector, business players, and government in creating a healthy and sustainable business ecosystem for Indonesia’s wellness and beauty industries. Representing the Governor of Bali, the Head of the Bali Provincial Tourism Office, Dr. I Wayan Sumarajaya, M.Si., conveyed the Bali Provincial Government’s support for the development of the wellness sector as part of efforts to improve public health, preserve local culture, and strengthen Bali’s tourism competitiveness on the global stage. The Bali Provincial Government continues to promote the integrated development of the wellness sector through Bali Governor Regulation No. 55 of 2019 concerning Traditional Health Services (Kestrad). This regulation provides a legal framework for the preservation and utilization of traditional Balinese healing practices, which are carried out holistically by considering physical, mental, spiritual, and social aspects as an integrated whole. The Bali Provincial Government is also committed to further developing a wellness tourism ecosystem integrated with other sectors, including healthcare, culture, education, and the creative economy. Wellness is viewed not merely as a product, but as a way of life that can enhance overall human well-being. Meanwhile, the Vice Minister of MSMEs of the Republic of Indonesia, Helvi Yuni Moraza, highlighted that the wellness and beauty sectors offer significant opportunities for MSMEs to grow, move up the value chain, and expand into global markets through innovation and improvements in product and service quality. In officially opening the Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo 2026, the Vice Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, Ni Luh Puspa, underscored Bali’s increasingly strong position as a world-class wellness destination, offering health and wellness experiences that are not only nature-based but also rooted in holistic approaches, cultural values, and sustainability. The presence of national and regional leaders at the event reflects a shared commitment to advancing the wellness and beauty industries as sectors with significant potential to contribute to Indonesia’s economy, while further strengthening Bali’s position as a world-class wellness hub. The opening ceremony was further enlivened by a cultural performance and the symbolic “Sacred Bloom Ceremony: Planting the Foundation of Wellness on the Tree of Life,” representing growth, harmony, and the sustainable future of Indonesia’s wellness industry. The Bali Provincial Government is currently encouraging the transformation of tourism from a quantity-based approach toward quality tourism. The wellness and beauty industries attract visitors who typically: ·         Stay longer; ·         Spend more than average tourists; ·         Generate relatively lower environmental impacts; and ·         Demonstrate a strong interest in local culture and wisdom. As such, this event serves as an important platform to strengthen Bali’s image as a sustainable, high-quality tourism destination. Amid the growing global trend toward healthy and holistic lifestyles, Bali Wellness and Beauty Expo 2026 serves not only as an exhibition but also as a strategic platform to drive innovation, expand business networks, and reinforce Indonesia’s—particularly Bali’s—position as one of the leading growth centers of the global wellness industry.
